How SMS Gateway Service Providers Can be Transparent About Privacy

Privacy is one of the biggest concerns when signing up for any service - SMS gateway service providers are no exception. In a world where the swopping of personal information happens every few seconds, people need to be ensured that their info is protected.

Isn't it just dreadful when you get a phone call from a company you have never heard of trying to enlist you as a customer. They seem to know everything about you, but you are very sure you never gave them permission to contact you. Where on earth did they get your contact details? And then it hits you - you recently gave all your details to your new SMS Gateway provider. Now they can forget about your company, you aren't doing business with them ever again, thank you!

How can you as the service provider make sure that you never get slapped with a "you gave out my personal info, now burn!" message from a client?

Make your privacy policy easily accessible for your clients - don't simply put it on a wall at the reception desk. They should be able to view it any time they want. Put it on your website and make it downloadable.

Give them a detailed breakdown of your policy containing info on the following:

What personal information you will be collecting, and why.Whether they can opt in to (or opt out of) the collection or use of their personal information.Who is in charge of it and where can they lodge a complaint.Who it will be shared with and why.For how long and where will it will be kept/ stored.

Be open and transparent about your privacy policies. If you need to collect sensitive info, make sure your clients are aware of it as well as the reasons behind it.

Only collect the info you really need. No SMS Gateway service provider needs to know how many bank accounts you have or how much you weigh.

Secure what you collect. A provider can't shrug his shoulders if his client's info gets stolen and say "oh well, my clients share their info with me at their own risk." Make sure you secure client info to the best of your abilities - or risk your business failing.

SMS for Schools is Coming

It is no secret that mobile technology has rapidly proliferated throughout youth culture and permeates society at all levels. When technological development increases to such an extent that human communication has been significantly altered, it is common for many to be reactive rather than to accept this inevitable evolution wholeheartedly. Unlike in other sectors, education systems have generally lagged behind in recognizing the immense potential that harnessing the instantaneous communication that SMS for schools offers to students, parents, teachers, and administration. It is commonplace for teachers to promptly take away any device that is seen as a 'distraction' from a productive leaning environment. However well intentioned this may be, the reality is that teenagers (and increasingly pre-teens) are inseparable from their mobile devices; in fact roughly 80% of the 41 million American teenagers own a cell phone. Rather than scold students for their use of mobile technology, it is far more productive to take advantage of SMS for schools as a way to stay connected with students, and with society at large.

There are understandable reservations that many teachers, parents, and administrators have with the introduction of text messaging as an educational tool. One of the most central concerns is how text language or 'textish' has done more harm to the comprehension and proper usage of English grammar than it has to its benefit. The thought process is that if SMS for schools is harnessed, that it will encourage and in fact reward the improper use of the English language. However, there is very little evidence to support this assertion; abbreviations and slang are all used to increase efficiency in communication, and simply follows the same trend as previous youth culture language development. There is far more evidence to suggest that the sheer quantity of text communication builds language skills than there is to suggest that is causes deterioration of language development. Youth use their own version of language to express themselves in a culturally modern manner; it is a way to feel comfortable with each other, to build communities and friend groups, and to bring down barriers of fear and anxiety that other forms of communication might instill. Most students recognize the difference between text language and formal language, as is evidenced by the majority of college students easily transitioning into writing in a formal manner.

As was previously stated, many other sectors of society have embraced text culture in a positive manner. For example, in the medical field, there have been movements to provide information about disease management, appointment reminders, and other sensitive information though text messaging. This has proven particularly effective with otherwise difficult to reach populations; for example youth who are unwilling to seek help for an issue that has been stigmatized such as depression or sexually transmitted disease. Text messaging offers a certain amount of anonymity and has the effect of increase the comfort level of younger patients. This same rationale is easily transferrable to education systems; utilizing SMS for schools can go a long way to reaching all students and maintaining a consistent and instantaneous connection to their education.

Providing a link between socialization via text and educational goals via text, makes it so all students can integrate the learning process more comfortably into their daily lives. Having teachers and parents acknowledge the legitimacy of a form of communication that is so ubiquitous in their lives will also go a long way to providing a more understanding and effective learning environment. Seeing SMS for schools as a benefit and not a detriment will take time, but hopefully the education system will not be left behind when the tide of technology continues to change.

Modern Marketing Technique

If you are looking for an efficient and easy way to reach your customers, you should consider SMS marketing. Marketing is extremely important if you want your business to flourish and there is no better way to attract customers than through text messages. This is a modern marketing technique, which has proved to be very efficient because of the vast number of people that actually use text message services. Here are some of the biggest advantages offered by this type of marketing:

Through SMS, you can let your customers know about your offers, products, and the discounts you offer. You can reach each interested customer directly on his mobile phone. It has been proven that this type of marketing improves the productivity of the company significantly. It also brings back a lot of traffic to your company, thereby improving your sales. If you send information about your products and services through an SMS, know that the chances are extremely high of your customers actually going through it. While emails can easily be ignored, customers barely ever ignore text messages.

SMSmarketing is the best way to connect to the local market. Your local business will thrive if you go for this type of marketing because you will have a great platform to contact your customers about any sales at your store or any special events that you may be hosting in the locality. You can also keep the interested customers updated with latest news about your products and offers.

This type of business marketing is also great in that it barely requires any resources. You can easily send reminder or a short message without any hassle; and this is not the case with email campaigns or direct mail campaigns, which requires longer, complete messages. Since it is quick, it saves a lot of time and money because you won't need to hire a writer to type complete mails and send them to your customers.

Not everyone today has laptop but almost everyone has a cell phone. You can't expect all your potential customers to carry their laptops wherever you go and check their emails instantly. However, you can easily rely on them to carry their cell phones no matter where they go and check their text messages instantly. Thus, you can send them time-sensitive messages through SMS marketing and be sure that they will read them immediately more often than not. You can update them about upcoming sales and promotions only a few hours prior to the schedule and still expect them to make it if they are interested. This is the power that this kind of marketing has.

Last but not the least, the biggest advantage is that this marketing is cost-effective. Hence it is the best way of marketing for smaller businesses. Also, you can send bulk SMSs using a good software package to your potential customers and this is much faster than calling each one up individually.

You must keep in mind that you should send SMSs only to those customers who are interested. It is imperative that you give them the choice to opt out of the SMS services so that you don't trouble them if they are not interested.
